The Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal Newsletter
The Works, PWM's newsletter, was distributed
internationally to members, colleagues and theatre companies. It explored themes of interest to the national
theatre community through articles by playwriting members across
the country.
2009 marked our first fully online publication of The Works, s aving both the expense of printing and the trees it takes to print them on. This season`s focus is on Playwrights`Abroad, looking at the viewpoints of playwrights across the world.
Our publication, "A Critical
Voice", (Issue 51, Winter 2008) addressed the topic
of theatre criticism in Canada. In "Commissioning" (Issue 48, Fall 2006) writers explored their opinions on the script
commisioning process. The concept of “Manufacturing
Culture” (Issue 46, Winter 2005) was interpreted
by six theatre professionals. "Art and War" (Issue 38, Summer 2004) looked at different viewpoints surrounding
art and war. “What is Your Dream Theatre Season: Perspectives
from Playwrights Across Canada” (Issue 37, Spring
2003) presented thirteen playwrights with the opportunity to plan
their ideal theatre season without the constraints imposed by budget
or box office. “Where You’re At: Coast-to-Coast-to
Coast” (Issue 36, Fall 2002) explored the artist’s
relationship to the environment in which he or she creates.
The Works is a free publication. Please feel free to download them.
