This activity is the culmination of our practice
in developing a play for production. A Production Dramaturg participates
in rehearsal of the first production of a new play. He or she is
constantly available for consultation with the artistic team to
review script changes and solve theatrical problems that only become
evident through regular rehearsal. The dramaturg also provides historical
background, philosophical and linguistic contexts, and other research
essential for the script's realization.
Over the past two years, we have seen several projects through
to the stage of Production Dramaturgy, the three most notable being
Burning Vision by Marie Clements, The Swanne by
Peter Hinton and Between Lovers by Sherri-D Wilson. In
each case, Production Dramaturgy has been a natural extension of
the work previously done with the writer and the script.

Cette activité représente le point culminant de notre processus de développement dramaturgique des pièces en vue de leur production. Le conseiller dramaturgique à la production participe aux répétitions de la première production d’une nouvelle œuvre dramatique. Il se met complètement à la disposition de l’équipe artistique pour réviser les changements apportés au texte et contribuer à la solution de problèmes dramaturgiques qui n’apparaissent le plus souvent qu’au cours d’une longue période de répétitions. Le conseiller dramaturgique peut aussi présenter le contexte historique, philosophique et linguistique de l’œuvre et effectuer aussi les éventuelles recherches supplémentaires essentielles à une création de qualité du texte.
Plusieurs projets ont profité de la contribution d’un soutien dramaturgique, entre autres, Stori Ya de Joan M. Kivanda, And Up They Flew de Martha Ross, Burning Vision de Marie Clements, The Swanne de Peter Hinton et Between Lovers de Sherri-D Wilson. Dans chacun de ces exemples, le soutien dramaturgique à la production était la suite naturelle du travail de développement précédemment réalisé avec l’auteur sur son texte.
