THE NATIONAL CREATION FUND<\/strong> 
Le National Arts Centre<\/strong>‘s fund is a catalyst for Canadian artists to take their projects to a new level.  It provides the additional time and resources that bold, ambitious projects need to be successful on the national and international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The fund will invest up to $3 million a year in the development of 15 to 20  new Canadian works in theatre. For the application form go ici<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


CANADIAN JEWISH PLAYWRITING COMPETITION OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS<\/strong>
This one of a kind competition recognizes the most outstanding, unproduced, Canadian plays with a Jewish focus. The winning playwright will receive $1,000 (CDN) and an 8-hour CAEA ITA workshop with a director and up to six actors. This workshop concludes with a public reading. (A virtual workshop and reading will take place in lieu of a live public performance if we are unable to meet safely in person). The winning playwright will also receive one session with a dramaturge before the playwright, director and actors meet for the workshop\/reading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2021 competition is co-presented by The Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (Manitoba), The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (Ontario) The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (Ontario), The Segal Centre for the Performing Arts (Quebec), and Neptune Theatre (Nova Scotia) Generously supported by the Asper Foundation. For information on how to submit, click here<\/a>. Life in the time of COVID-19 is different from anything our world has experienced as a collective before. The Department of Imaginary Affairs believes that the stories we tell ourselves about this moment will shape our individual and collective realities for years to come. For their newest project, Life in the Time of COVID-19: A Time Capsule<\/strong>, the Department of Imaginary Affairs is looking for letters, stories, and artifacts from this moment for our future selves, and invites all to participate in its development. SOCIAL DISTANCING FESTIVAL<\/strong>
Le Social Distancing Festival<\/strong> is an online artist\u2019s community made to celebrate and showcase the work of the many artists around the world who have been affected by the need for social distancing due to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The project has three main goals: help get some of the great work that artists have done out to the world, and showcase projects that were cancelled get the word of mouth that they missed out on; maintain a sense of artistic community, even from our living rooms; allow artists to continue to engage with their projects by making videos, sharing work, and celebrating the work of others. Playwrights Canada Press<\/strong> invites you to submit monologues for publication in its latest anthology, a collection of monologues for 2SLGBTQ+ and non-binary voices. Playwrights are asked to submit a monologue of approximately 1-2 pages. Submissions may come from produced plays, workshopped plays, or a stand-alone monologue that has already been written or is responding to this particular submission call. If your piece has already been published, you must include information on how to contact the publisher. CONVERGENCE THEATRE: THE COVID COMMISSIONS<\/strong>
At the end of March, Convergence Theatre<\/strong> put out a call to the public: \u201cleave a voicemail or write an e-mail telling us about the impact that COVID-19 is having on your life\u201d. To date, the company has received over 111 of these COVID Confessions. As part of a fundraising campaign for out-of-work artists, the company is currently accepting commission donations from folks at home who want to see a piece of artwork created in response to one of these COVID Confessions<\/strong><\/em>. The $100 donations are split equally between an Artist who will have just 10 days to make a surprise creation inspired by a COVID Confession, and an Actor in their ongoing “Phone Play Cycle” The Corona Variations. Interested artists are invited to join the roster – playwrights, poets, writers of any kind, dancers, musicians, filmmakers, etc. Eventually, every artist’s piece will be featured on the Convergence Theatre<\/strong> website (along with an excerpt of the anonymous COVID Confession that inspired it) as a way to further support and showcase each artist and their work.
