Synopsis:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Three very odd triplets are consumed by suffering; an unusual couple is inflamed by love; a lonely woman’s heart is kindled by forbidden desire. Somewhere between black comedy and Greek tragedy, this ferocious, poetic, and tightly structured four-hander is an epic exploration of heredity and fate that also leaves room for the individual. Doomed to the flames by their very nature, Paquet’s seemingly ordinary characters nevertheless choose to struggle against their solitude in ways that are by turns hilarious, touching, and cruel\u2026 while managing to remain both relatable and astonishing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leanna Brodie:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Leanna Brodie is a Vancouver-based actor and writer as well as the translator of numerous Qu\u00e9bec playwrights, including H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Ducharme (whose Dora-winning Baobab<\/em> continues to tour internationally after over 600 performances), R\u00e9becca D\u00e9raspe, Catherine L\u00e9ger, Larry Tremblay, Philippe Soldevila, Louise Bombardier, Olivier Sylvestre, S\u00e9bastien Harrisson, and Christian B\u00e9gin (5 Jessie Award nominations for Ruby Slippers Theatre’s Apr\u00e8s Moi<\/em>). You Are Happy<\/em>, Opium_37<\/em>, and My Mother Dog<\/em> are published by Playwrights Canada Press. Two of her translations premiered in the 2017-18 season: R\u00e9becca D\u00e9raspe’s You Are Happy<\/em> at the Great Canadian Theatre Company, and Catherine L\u00e9ger’s I Lost My Husband<\/em> at Gateway Theatre (where it sold out its entire run). Current projects include D\u00e9raspe’s Gametes<\/em> et I Am William<\/em>; the collective creation Espoir\/Espwa<\/em>; Philippe Soldevila’s Conte de la neige<\/em>; David Paquet’s Le Brasier<\/em>; and Olivier Sylvestre’s Le D\u00e9sert<\/em>. Her translation of Sylvestre’s The Paradise Arms<\/em> was the winner of the 2018 Safewords New Play Prize. As an actor, Brodie has been Jessie-nominated for performances in both English (Pi Theatre’s Terminus) and French (Th\u00e9\u00e2tre la Seizi\u00e8me’s Bonjour, l\u00e0, bonjour). She is currently an Associate at Playwrights Theatre Centre, co-writing Salesman in China<\/em> with Jovanni Sy.<\/span><\/p>\n
