{"id":6414,"date":"2019-10-24T16:24:17","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T20:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.playwrights.ca\/?p=6414"},"modified":"2019-11-19T10:10:53","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T15:10:53","slug":"apply-now-introduction-to-theatre-translation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.playwrights.ca\/fr\/2019\/10\/24\/apply-now-introduction-to-theatre-translation\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply Now: Introduction to Theatre Translation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A one-on-one mentorship<\/strong> <strong>opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For years Playwrights\u2019 Workshop Montreal (PWM) and the Centre des Auteurs Dramatiques (CEAD) have worked to forge links between French and English language theatre communities and foster the art of theatre translation.&nbsp; To this end, the two organizations have once again partnered together to offer an individualized mentorship meant to familiarize  a playwright to the craft of theatre translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How the mentorship works:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>PWM will select 1 participant with an interest in French to English theatre translation.<\/li><li>Over a period of several months, the participant will translate excerpts (roughly 10-12 pages) of two contemporary Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois plays selected by the CEAD.\u00a0<\/li><li>Over several weeks, the participant will receive a total of 12 hours of dramaturgical support from an established translation dramaturg.<\/li><li>The participant will\u00a0 have the opportunity to discuss their translations with the original playwrights.<\/li><li>The mentorship will culminate in two 4-hour workshops during which professional actors will read and discuss the newly-translated excerpts.<\/li><li>After the workshops, the participant will submit their final drafts of the translated excerpts to the CEAD.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can Apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Montreal-based playwrights with a strong interest in French-to-English theatre translation.<\/li><li>The candidate must have excellent writing skills in English and have fluent comprehension of Qu\u00e9becois French.<\/li><li>Playwrights with little to no experience in theatre translation are encouraged to apply.<\/li><li>Applicants must have a minimum of two professionally produced pieces or Fringe productions.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note: If you are a member of the CEAD and are interested in applying to the English-to-French component of this project, please visit the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/cead.qc.ca\/_news\/id\/404\"><em>CEAD\u2019s website<\/em><\/a><em> for application details.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application Guidelines<\/strong><br><br>Send your application to documents  as well as any questions you may have to Harris Frost at <a href=\"mailto:harris@playwrights.ca\">harris@playwrights.ca<\/a>.<br><br><strong>The deadline to apply is Friday, November 8th at noon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please include the following documents&nbsp; in your email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your artistic CV and\/or bio.<br><\/li><li>A brief&nbsp;cover letter outlining your interest in this mentorship and in French-to-English theatre translation more generally.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tentative Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>November 8th:<\/strong> Application deadline.<\/li><li><strong>November 13th: <\/strong>Participant selected and provided with exceprts<\/li><li><strong>November &#8211;
