Membership

Membership

Artists across Canada join PWM to enrich and evolve their creative practice. We engage collaboratively in deep explorations of story, theatrical form and process. To meet the needs of artists with diverse backgrounds, practices and levels of experience, we offer three types of membership.

PWM memberships are valid for one year from the date of joining. All types of membership come with the following benefits:

  • Voting privileges at the PWM Annual General Meeting
  • Reduced rates of rental of our rehearsal space subject to availability
  • Opportunity to publicize your events in our monthly newsflash
  • Invitation to PWM events, including public readings

Creator Membership

The Creator Membership is open to professional artists, both established and emerging, actively engaged in the process of creating new work for performance, including but not limited to playwrights and translators. The cost of this membership is $75 annually.

Eligibility

Playwrights must have had two professional or fringe productions, or one published play, or be recognized as a professional by their peers. Translators must have two produced or published play translations. Emerging artists must have two letters of introduction from Canadian theatre professionals.

Creator Membership Benefits

  • Consideration for our professional playwright/creator development programs.
  • Access to one meeting with feedback with PWM’s dramaturg (not applicable for translators). A dramaturgical assessment of the work will be forwarded to the artistic director and put into consideration for further development.

The Student Membership is $45 annually.

Student members must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary program in theatre or creative writing. Proof of enrollment must be provided.

    Non-Member Dramaturgical Service

If you are not eligible to become a member but are interested in dramaturgical consultation PWM will initiate one meeting with feedback for you with a professional dramaturg. The cost of this one-time service is $125 with PWM offsetting the remainder of the cost. If you are interested in this service please send an email to dramaturg@playwrights.ca and put “Non-member dramaturgical service” in the subject line.

If you would like to support PWM but are not interested in membership, consider making a one-time or recurring donation. Our Collaborators and 365 Creators’ Club are a passionate community of supporters who wish to make an important contribution to the Canadian theatre landscape.
